Track History & Quick Facts
In the years following its opening, Arlington Park Race Track was proactive about installing the latest technology to help ensure the quality of their events. In 1933, Arlington Park Race Track installed an electric `Totalisator'. This device, the first of its kind, reduced the setup time between races and displayed relevant wagering information for bettors. It was a godsend.
Three years later, Arlington Park Race Track installed its first photo finish camera. The high speed camera, which was installed over the finish line, helped to eliminate disputes over judge's decisions for close finishes. Today, there is nothing more exciting than a photo finish. If you have money on the horse race, the seconds tick by like years and your body sweats. You recall the race over and over waiting for the final decision and hoping your horse rightfully comes out on top.
Arlington Park Race Track reached into the technology closet once again in 1940, by installing the first ever electronic start gate. Arlington Park Race Track has been a constant innovator and has contributed to the overall evolution of the sport of horse racing.
