The Spring through Summer meeting offers 40 stakes races and in the fall, there is the Championship meeting, which hosts 46 stakes races worth almost $12 million dollars. Even those who don't watch the horses race throughout the year take time out of their day to watch the Triple Crown race at the Belmont Park Racetrack.
The $1,000,000 purse of the Belmont Stakes which pits 3 year olds against each other in a 1 1/2 mile race is matched with the Jockey Club Gold Cup which challenges 3 year old and up thoroughbreds in a 1 1/4 mile race.
Additionally, Belmont Park offers several $750,000 purse races, including the Metropolitan Handicap, the Flower Bowl Invitational, and the Beldame, races that continue to attract some of the most talented jockeys and horses.
