Track History & Quick Facts
1996 was an important year for Harrington Raceway. That year Delaware passed gaming legislation that allowed Harrington Raceway to have video lottery machines - also known as slot machines. Harrington Raceway wasted no time adding video lottery machines and they now have over 1,800 machines on the premises. Thanks to this new ability, purses at Harrington Raceway have increased. About 12% of the profit from the video lottery machines goes towards purses. Harrington Raceway has now established itself as a top track on the harness racing circuit.
The increase in purses have allowed local horsemen to increase their revenue and thus increase their horse racing environment. The end result is an increase in quality and better horse racing at Harrington Raceway. To help further local quality, Harrington Raceway gives Delaware owned or bred horses a generous 10% bonus on all Delaware owned or bred races. When harness horse racing fans think of great tracks around the country, Harrington Raceway is one of the first racetracks that comes to mind.
