Delta Downs Track Layout
The main track is a six furlong oval with two chutes. One chute is a 1 and 1/16 mile chute and the other is a 5-furlong chute. The racing track surface is a mixture of clay and sand.
Track History & Quick Facts
Delta Downs was opened in the 1970s, so it is a relatively newer track as horse racing tracks go. It features both thoroughbred and quarter horse racing. It was bought in the 1990's for the low price of $10 million by Shawn Scott. After some improvements, the track was sold to Boyd Gaming for $100 million. A law was passed to allow for slot machines and this really boosted the value of Delta Downs. Hurricane Rita completely battered the track and the casino hotel.
